cp -rf /sourcepath/sourcedir/*.pdf /destpath/destdir/
..... goes down the directory. The xargs and pipe is not required to do this simple copy. It is routinely and mundanely done with cp countless thousands of times each day all over the world
On the other hand, it is great to see such creativity using the xargs and pipe !!!!! Can anyone think of another way to do this without cp ?

1. I am restrained to 2 input files only.

I want to gzip some files before copying to remote host. There is no freespace on source host so it needs to be perfomed within one-liner. I tried the following but it didn't work

These three finds worked as expected:
$ find . -iname "*.PDF"
$ find . -iname "*.PDF" \( ! -name "*_nobackup.*" \)
$ find . -path "*_nobackup*" -prune -iname "*.PDF"
They all returned the match:
./folder/file.pdf
:b:
This find returned no matches:
