Use GNU date and do:
date --date="15 days ago"
or, since the link above seems to be broken, just search the forums for the string "yesterdays date".

I am trying to modify a script which accepts date in format dd/mm/yy. I am trying to modify the script so that it retrieves the date that was 15 days earlier from today as start date. I need to increment a date value through shell script.
Input value consist of start date and end date in DATE format of unix.
For eg.
I need increment a date value of 1/1/09 to 31/12/09 i.e for a whole yr.

I m trying to write a script which compares to dates.
for this i am converting dates into no using synatx
as below
v2=`date | awk '{print $2,$3,$4}'`
v3=`date +%s -d "$v2"`
this syntax is working in bash shell ,but fails in ksh shell.

Procedural style

Resets the current date of the DateTime object to a different date.
PARAMETERS
o $object
-Procedural style only: A DateTime object returned by date_create(3). The function modifies this object.
