Beautiful!! Both the input.txt and another .txt file I had in the same directory were changed according to the edits I indicated.
Now I am using 7 copies of Psalm 119 as input text, buried in various levels of directories and subdirectories, and it works just fine! The only limit is that directories and filenames must have no spaces, but I can live with that. If you know a modification that would remove that limit, I'd be interested, but it is not a terrible inconvenience.
Now since I am using one script instead of two, I have renamed it multi.sh, and it looks like this:

for file in `find . -name "*.txt"`
do
perl -pi.bak -e '
s/judgments/Truth/g;
s/precepts/Truth/g;
s/laws/Truth/g;
s/testimonies/Truth/g;
s/commandments/Truth/g;
s/statutes/Truth/g;
' $file
done
----------------------------------
This could have a wide variety of applications! I plan to use it both with LaTeX and also with normal text content files, and it will help me standardize and also analyze. I am quite excited about the potential

Some yeras ago (1994) I had a utility that bundled up multiple files into a big file with a seperator lines. Automatically loaded this temp file into vi - which allowed you to edit all the files. then when you :wq or ZZ vi it saved all the files bak to their appropriate file names and got... (0 Replies)

unix2dos [options] [-c convmode] [-o file ...] [-n infile outfile ...] Options: [-hkqV] [--help] [--keepdate] [--quiet] [--version] DESCRIPTION
This manual page documents unix2dos, the program that converts text files in UNIX format to DOS format. OPTIONS
The following options are available: -h --help Print online help. -k --keepdate Keep the date stamp of output file same as input file. -q --quiet Quiet mode. Suppress all warning and messages. -V --version Prints version information. -c --convmode convmode Sets conversion mode. Simulates unix2dos under SunOS. -o --oldfile file ... Old file mode. Convert the file and write output to it. The program default to run in this mode. Wildcard names may be used. -n --newfile infile outfile ... New file mode. Convert the infile and write output to outfile. File names must be given in pairs and wildcard names should NOT be used or you WILL lost your files. EXAMPLES

BUGS
