Hello,

I am here again, with another issue.

I am setting up a new Oracle VM setup (GUI). On the backend, it is ldom concept, but GUI seems to have an easier interface.
For now, we don't have any SFP module and these two S7 Sparc servers are not connected to Storage, so I have to live with local disks only. Now the limitation comes here.
I will create one repository with one local disk and can create VM's from that. That means, VM will be sitting on that repository, which is made of local disk. If ever, I want to replace that local disk (due to hard/transport/bad errors), I will not be able to migrate these VMs to another repository/pool because these VMs are on local disk. This will be a bad design.
Even if I create zpool with two disk, I thought I should be able to see that pool in OVM. But from Oracle VM perspective GUI Manager does not recognize zpools, only disk. I created a case with Oracle for best practice to be used for this and they responded -- "OVM is not designed to manage redundancy with local disks. That is why Oracle VM is capable to handle SAN Storage over the network or even fiber channel. Now from Solaris perspective, I think that you can manually assign zpool as virtual disk to the LDOMs guest, but you need to do research on this if this is possible"

I tried to google and didn't find any relevant note, if I can create virtual disks from zpool.

Another idea came in my mind was, if I can create hardware RAID, then OS will see that single disk, but then I found this link - Hardware RAID Support -
SPARC and Netra SPARC S7-2 Series Servers Administration Guide and it denies it.

Any suggestions or ideas, please ?

NAME

       vxbootsetup - set up system boot information on a Veritas Volume Manager disk

SYNOPSIS

       /etc/vx/bin/vxbootsetup [-g diskgroup] [medianame ... ]

DESCRIPTION

       The  vxbootsetup utility configures physical disks so that they can be used to boot the system. Before vxbootsetup is called to configure a
       disk, the required volumes, standvol, rootvol and swapvol (and optionally, dumpvol) must be created on the disk.  All of these volumes must
       be contiguous with only one subdisk.

       The -g option may be used to specify the boot disk group.

       If  no  medianame arguments are specified, all disks that contain usable mirrors of the root, swap, /usr and /var volumes are configured to
       be bootable.

       If medianame arguments are given, only the disks that are associated with the specified disk names are configured to be bootable.

       vxbootsetup requires that:

       o    The root volume must be named rootvol and must have a usage type of root.

       o    The swap volume must be named swapvol and must have a usage type of swap.

       o    The volumes containing /usr and /var (if any) must be named usr and var, respectively.

       See the chapter "Recovery from Boot Disk Failure" in the Veritas Volume Manager Troubleshooting Guide for detailed information on  how  the
       system boots and how VxVM impacts the system boot process.  The vxmirror, vxrootmir, and vxresize utilities call vxbootsetup automatically.
       If you use vxassist, or vxmake and vxplex to create mirrors of the root volume on a disk, you must run vxbootsetup explicitly to  make  the
       disk bootable.

ARGUMENTS

       medianame
	    Specifies the disk name (disk media name) of a VM disk that is to be configured as bootable.
