so we actually figured out that our host name was the problem. we had it set to server.domain so we changed it to just server and that worked. I'm actually not the one changing the files the other 2 DBA's are but I'm a DBA in training.

Is there a way in AIX5.3 with Sendmail 8.13.4 to accept a sender address with an unresolvable domain? I've read about the option:
FEATURE(`accept_unresolvable_domains')
But can't seem to confirm if that option is available in this version of Sendmail.
