I would try to start all from scratch, that means remove using rmdev the device then
then see if it shows up correctly, ah vg01 was already present? so there might be a mismatch between what it knows of the group and so is looking for a disk that doesn't exist...
My idea would be to create a new vg just to see the disk works... then you could start meditating on how to re-create vg01... as I cannot help more, not having any HP for quite some time know, when here it was decided to drop PA-RISC... ( not my choice...) but remembered having sometimes issues of the sort with clusters...

I wish to execute a simple perl script to pass unix commands on a HPUX platform, retrieve the result and filter through the text to determine outcomes x,y and z. I am developing the code on my windows system.

First of all, forgive me if I come off as naive. Normally I'm doing day-to-day management of a Server 2008 network, so HP-UX isn't exactly my forte.
We have several HP 715/100 machines running UX 9.x, and recently one of them stopped being able to boot. In the boot menu the disk shows up with... (3 Replies)

LEARN ABOUT ULTRIX
reboot
reboot(8) System Manager's Manual reboot(8)Name
reboot - automatic reboot procedures
Syntax
/etc/reboot [ -n ] [ -q ]
Description
The ULTRIX system is booted by loading a kernel image, usually into memory at location zero and transferring to zero. Because the system
is not reenterable, the kernel image must be read in from disk each time the system is bootstrapped.
When the reboot of a running system is desired, is normally used. If there are no users, can be used. The command causes the disks to be
synced, and then a multiuser reboot is initiated. The system is booted and an automatic disk check is performed. If the procedure suc-
ceeds, the system is then brought up for the users.
The system will reboot itself after a power failure or after a crash, provided auto-restart is enabled on your system. A consistency check
of the file systems will be performed and, unless the check fails, the system will resume multiuser operations.
Options-n Prevents the disks from being synced.
-q Reboots quickly and ungracefully, without shutting down running processes first.
