If i get that right:

You have a server onto which you want to log on using a certain user. If you connect from host A you want the user, after logging in, to go to one certain directory, if you connect from host B you want to go to another directory and so on. Is that right?

If so: there are several options you have. First you could use the output of who -a to find out from where you have connected. A sample output will look similar to:

Using this information you can create a script like this to change to the respective directory:

icomefrom=$(who -a | sed -n '/bakunin/ {;s/.*(//;s/)$//p;}')

     10.1.1.1)
          cd /dir/A
          ;;

     10.1.1.2)
          cd /dir/B
          ;;

     .....
esac

Notice that you may also have a variable "SSH_CONNECTION" set which holds essentially the same information.

Another possibility would be to use different users to connect to the host so you can have different login scripts which put you into different directories. All these users might at the end switch their effective UID (via su) so that you end up with always the same user but in different directories.

There will be a myriad of other possibilites, but as long as you do not explain what you (in the grand scheme of things) want to achieve it is hard to find out which one of them is feasible and which one isn't. So tell us about your plans and we will be better able to help you.

NAME

     createhomedir -- create and populate home directories on the local computer.

SYNOPSIS

     createhomedir [-scbalh] [-n directoryDomainName] [-u username]

DESCRIPTION

     createhomedir provides several options for creating and populating home directories.

OPTIONS

     -s       creates home directories for server home paths only (default).

     -c       creates home directories for local home paths only.

     -b       creates home directories for both server and local home paths.

     -a       creates home directories for users defined in all directory domains of the server's search path.

     -l       creates home directories for users defined in the local directory domain.

     -n directoryDomainName
	      creates home directories for users defined in a specific directory domain in the server's search path.

     -u username
	      creates a home directory for a specific user defined in the domain(s) identified in the -a, -l, or -n parameter. If you omit the -a,
	      -l, and -n parameters when you use the -u parameter, -a is assumed.

     -i       reads username list from standard input and creates specified home directories. Each username should be on its own line.

     -h       usage help.

FILES

     /usr/sbin/createhomedir			   location of tool

CAVEATS

     When using the -a option, search limits of various directory servers (such as Open Directory or Active Directory) can prevent all possible
     home directories from being created. In this case, you may need to specify the usernames explicitly.
