I did
sudo chown -R andy /home/andy/
because some files in home were not owned by me.

Working in Kubuntu 14.04
I know I can find the default user line using the cmd from bash:
cat /etc/passwd | grep 1000
What I get is:
user:x:1000:1000:User Name,,,:/home/user:/bin/bash
How do I extract to get:
myuser=$user
myhome=$homdir
All help appreciated!
