If the mtime shown with ls -l was manipulated, ls -lc will show it (it shows the ctime, the last change of the attributes).

Users who desire to have their .profile executed must explicitly do so in the crontab entry. Why?

The .profile file should be read when the user logs in. So, there should be no need to execute .profile file again in a cron job (since the cron job is run after the user logs in). Doesn't the cron require login from the user. Then, from where does the cron execute? Please help!! (1 Reply)

The kanji command shows the list of printable characters in the current locale. When invoked without an option, encoding numbers of current locale are shown along with the characters. OPTIONS
-j JIS code numbers are shown. -s PC kanji code numbers are shown. This option is available only in a locale equivalent to "ja" locale. -e EUC code numbers are shown. This option is available only in a locale equivalent to "ja_JP.PCK" locale. -k JIS Kuten numbers are shown. -Kn In a locale equivalent to "ja" locale, this shows only those characters from row of JIS X 0208 character set n in Kuten code.
