It's sad that server4you does not care to even talk to me to address these major issues.

Well, I was fair and gave server4you two full days to respond to my ticket about problems with their customer support. I offered to speak with their management and tech leads on the phone. They did not take me up on my offer.

Here is a summary of what I told server4you:

During this outage on your end, I discovered these things about server4you.
  1. Your Power Panel is very slow. Clicking between tabs can take up to 10 seconds or more just to go from panel to panel. This should take milliseconds, not many seconds. You must upgrade this user panel system to faster hardware and networking.
  2. Your team does not monitor your own data center network. It should NOT be up to the customer to notify via a ticket that your own network has a problem. It is easy to set up internal server and networking monitoring. Why on Earth do you not have basic customer network management in place?
  3. Your PowerPower does not provide any network status or server status. This is terrible. Why are your customers like us blind to if the server is up and running? You could write the code to fix this in less than a single day (if really senior tech).
  4. Your PowerPanel does not provide any view into the server or server network at all. Your HOT LINE person telling me to REBOOT is wrong. Why should we have to HARD REBOOT the server when the server is UP ... this is because SERVER4YOU does not provide basic status to customers and even your own support HOT LINE people . Your HOT LINE person told me the network was fine. He was wrong. I knew it was a network issue on your end (or was pretty sure).
  5. Your HOT LINE person was arrogant in my view. Yes, of course I was not happy. The PowerPanel is terrible. It's slow and nearly unusable, 8 to 10 seconds to load pages. There is no status for the server or my server's network in the panel. This is awful customer service for a data center.

It's sad that server4you does not care to even talk to me to address these major issues with their customer support.

Cut Over to New Data Center and Upgraded OS Done. :)

Three days ago we received an expected notice from our long time data center that they were going dark on Sept 12th. About one and a half hours ago, after three days of marathon work, I just cut over the unix.com to a new data center with a completely new OS and Ubuntu distribution. (22 Replies)

OUTAGE: Data Center Problem Resolved.

There was a problem with our data center today, creating a site outage (server unreachable). That problem has been resolved. bubbros-server - the bub-n-bros server. SYNOPSIS
bubbros-server [ level-file.bin ] [options] DESCRIPTION
bubbros-server starts an http server that acts as a control panel for the server. The server listens on port 8000 by default. The url for the control panel is http://server:port/0xN where 0xN is a random hex number (acts as minimal protection). This url is printed when the server starts. You can start and view games and kill the server from this panel. The control panel also allows you to type in the address of a server to connect to, the script will then open a client to that server. The http server also servers java applet clients for those players who wish to use one. When a game is started the script opens a port for the game server. This port can then be connected to by a client. Clients autodetect servers running on the local network with UDP ping on port 8056. Connection forming The client forms a tcp connection to the server. Or, when using the metaserver, the server forms a connection to the client. If this fails, the client and server try a simultaneous SYN connect. This sometimes works if the server and client are behind firewalls. The server then tries to transmit the data over udp. If it gets no response from the client it will fall back to the existing tcp connection. OPTIONS
-b N, --begin N, --start N Start at board (level) number N. The default is 1. See also the -s option. -h, --help Display help. -i, --infinite Restart the server at the end of the game. Normally the server quits after a certain period of inactivity. This is useful when used with the -m option to make a public server that is available for a long time. -l N, --lives N Limit number of lives to N. If this option is not specified the number of lives will be infinite. -m, --metaserver Register server with the Metaserver (currently) at codespeak.net:8050. This makes your server visible to everybody, and also facil- itates joining through a fascistic firewall. --port TYPE=N Sets default listening ports. If type is LISTEN , sets the game server port to N. The game server port is chosen randomly by default. If the type is HTTP , sets the http server port to N. The http server port defaults to 8000. Another port will be chosen if none was specified and 8000 is already in use. The server also listens to UDP ping on port 8056. -s N, --step N Increase board number with N when a board is completed. Defaults to 1. see also the -b option. OUTPUT
