What Corona688 and gull04 said is absolutely correct but good practice is to not use ftp at all! Use any securified alternative (sftp, scp, ...) instead. They can use keys so taht you do not have to store passwords anywhere (which is always a security hazard) and they won't transmit these keys (or passwords) unencrypted over the net, so that they could be sniffed by third parties. Both things are not the case with ftp.

Hi,
I have a ftp script which first gets all the file names and echo's the latest file.
I'm using another ftp command sets to get the file name given by first ftp. The problem is the parameter is not accepted by second ftp. The error message i'm getting is

Hello All,
I am trying to connect to ftp server and get the files. Also i need to rename the file in other ftp dir.
rename method is not allowing me to rename the file in other dir. When i tried copy command by using net::FTP:FILE then perl says it is not installed.

ftp::geturl - Uri handler for ftp urls

DESCRIPTION
This package provides a command which wraps around the client side of the ftp protocol provided by package ftp to allow the retrieval of
urls using the ftp schema.
API
::ftp::geturl url
This command can be used by the generic command ::uri::geturl (See package uri) to retrieve the contents of ftp urls. Internally it
uses the commands of the package ftp to fulfill the request.
The contents of a ftp url are defined as follows:
file The contents of the specified file itself.
directory
A listing of the contents of the directory in key value notation where the file name is the key and its attributes the asso-
ciated value.
link The attributes of the link, including the path it refers to.
