Top Forums Shell Programming and Scripting For loop that will replace the ifcfg data. Post 303014289 by Chubler_XL on Thursday 8th of March 2018 03:46:45 PM

How about this:

Code:
hosts=( $(cat hosts) )
for host in ${hosts[@]}
do
    grep "^$host" ip | {
        read server ip net gw
        sed '/NETMASK/d;/IPADDR/d;/GATEWAY/d;/^#/d' $host
        echo "IPADDR=$ip"
        echo "NETMASK=$net"
        echo "GATEWAY=$gw"
    } > ${host}_new
done

This reads your server1 file and produces server1_new with commented lines and existing NETMASK, IPADDR and GATEWAY lines removed and appends new lines with values from ip file.
Its not very efficient as it re-reads ip for every host.

NAME
avahi.hosts - avahi-daemon static host name file SYNOPSIS
/etc/avahi/hosts DESCRIPTION
/etc/avahi/hosts is a file which may be used to define static host name to IP address mappings for multicast DNS. This is especially useful when publishing DNS-SD services on behalf of other hosts. See avahi.service(5) for more information. The file format is similar to the one of /etc/hosts: on each line an IP address and the corresponding host name. The host names should be in FQDN form, i.e. with appended .local suffix. AUTHORS
