I was surprised to learn that, at least today (on the weekend) that after subtracting known or flagged bots from the total number of guests on line, the number of mobile users identified is just less than 20% of the total number of non-robot users.
This was a big surprise for me, and I'll check often and during the weekday to see how this number holds up during busy times. I will also check the code to see if there is some counting error! Basically, to get the number of mobile users I quickly added up the number of iPhone, Android and iPad guest users from the UA string, so it seems it might be accurate.
OK... after a lot of digging around, I found that many bots identify themselves as mobile devices, so after I filtered out the bots which identified themselves as mobile devices from the total mobile users on line, the ratio of the numbers of mobile users to total users (mobile + desktop) is back to under 15 percent (just now was %13), which is what I expected.
Will check this during more busy times next week.
