Because i want to use a custom name server i set the properties in the "Edit Connections" dialogue to the following:
And i expected that any time i use this connection that the respective DNS servers are automatically put into the file /etc/resolv.conf (which is actually a link to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf, as it should be, i am told).
Still, this doesn't happen and in /etc/resolv.conf a name server provided by the DHCP server is mentioned instead of the ones i entered. What am i doing wrong?
I am supposed to setup a Domain Name Server, and I don't really know how to do this, can someone either help me, or point me in the direction of a site that has a good explination of how to do this.
Thanks,
Ronnie (5 Replies)

Hello,
I've created new DNS servers and changed all of the clients /etc/resolv.conf to point to them, but when I check the old DNS logs, I see that the clients are still querying it. Does anybody know why?

Hi Gurus,
Here is the issue that I've encountered.
VAR1=`hostname | tr '' ''`
-> convert hostname to uppercase
VAR2=`grep $VAR1 /etc/hosts | awk '{ print $1 }'`
-> Since hostname is already in uppercase, grep is unable to find it in /etc/hosts. How to handle VAR2?

Hey everyone, I've noticed that when I do a dig command, I don't get any authoritative records back. For example a dig to cnn.com just yields:

import-bug-from-debian -h
DESCRIPTION
import-bug-from-debian clones bugs from Debian's BTS into Launchpad. Each bug listed on the command line has its initial report re-filed

Each bug may be provided either as a bug number or URL.
OPTIONS -b, --browserless
Don't open the bug in a browser at the end.
-h, --help
Display a help message and exit.
-l INSTANCE, --lpinstance=INSTANCE
Use the specified instance of Launchpad (e.g. "staging"), instead of the default of "production".
-p PACKAGE, --package=PACKAGE
Launchpad package to file bug against, if not the same source package name as Debian. Useful for importing removal bugs filed
against ftp.debian.org.
--no-conf
Do not read any configuration files, or configuration from environment variables.
ENVIRONMENT
All of the CONFIGURATION VARIABLES below are also supported as environment variables. Variables in the environment take precedence to
those in configuration files.
CONFIGURATION VARIABLES

variable takes precedence over the package-wide variable.
