Linux Using "Find" & Storing To Multiple Variables
Hello all!

I'm pretty new to bash scripting, so this should be a pretty easy question to solve.

For the last few hours, I've been creating a script that will list some of the following (based on a path I specify):
  • # of directories
  • # of files
  • # of executable files
  • files older than 365 days
  • and more...
What I need help with doing is coming up with a "find" command that will do the above items (and more) by passing over all my specified directory files ONLY ONCE.

When running my script, I'll do:

./myscriptname /home/alphekka

In my bash file, if no path is specified, then I'll return an exit code of 1.

I'm guessing I'm going to need to do something like this:

#!/bin/bash
find $1 \( -type f $variable1 \), \( -type d $variable2 \)

Then towards the end of my script I'll do:

printf "# of files: $variable1 \n"
printf "# of directories: $variable2 \n"
printf "etc.... \n"

Hopefully this'll be an easier to solve question. I appreciate any help anybody may be able to give me. Thank you most kindly in advance!

Find lines with "A" then change "E" to "X" same line

I have a bunch of random character lines like ABCEDFG. I want to find all lines with "A" and then change any "E" to "X" in the same line. ALL lines with "A" will have an "X" somewhere in it. How would I mod_rewrite "/~a1Pha" and "/=a1Pha" to "/paste/a1Pha.htm"? (internally & externally)

find files in sub dir with tag & add "." at the beginning [tag -f "Note" . | xargs -0 {} mv {} .{}]

I am trying find files in sub dir with certain tags using tag command, and add the period to the beginning. I can't use chflags hidden {} cause it doesn't add period to the beginning of the string for web purpose. So far with my knowledge, I only know mdfind or tag can be used to search files with... NAME

       irsend - basic LIRC program to send infra-red commands

SYNOPSIS

       irsend [options] DIRECTIVE REMOTE CODE [CODE...]

DESCRIPTION

       Asks the lircd daemon to send one or more CIR (Consumer Infra-Red) commands. This is intended for remote control of electronic devices such
       as TV boxes, HiFi sets, etc.

       DIRECTIVE can be:
	  SEND_ONCE	    - send CODE [CODE ...] once
	  SEND_START	    - start repeating CODE
	  SEND_STOP	    - stop repeating CODE
	  LIST		    - list configured remote items
	  SET_TRANSMITTERS  - set transmitters NUM [NUM ...]
	  SIMULATE	    - simulate IR event

       REMOTE is the name of a remote, as described in the lircd configuration file.

       CODE is the name of a remote control key of REMOTE, as it appears in the lircd configuration file.

       NUM is the transmitter number of the hardware device.

       For the LIST DIRECTIVE, REMOTE and/or CODE can be empty:

	  LIST	 ""    ""   - list all configured remote names
	  LIST REMOTE  ""   - list all codes of REMOTE

FILES

       /etc/lirc/lircd.conf
	      Default lircd configuration file.  It should contain all the remotes, their infra-red codes and the corresponding timing	and  wave-
	      form details.

DIAGNOSTICS

       If lircd is not running (or /var/run/lirc/lircd lacks write permissions) irsend aborts with the following diagnostics:
       "irsend: could not connect to socket"
       "irsend: Connection refused" (or "Permission denied").
