I am using sed command to replace following line in gz file-
eg. sed 's/$x/$y/g'
Can anyone tell me correct way to do this.Because it is not working.
Both the strings $x and $y are present in different files($x in list and $y in Masked_list).

I have a shell script that I have written to be a kind of to-do/notepad that's quickly executable from the command line. However, special characters tend to break it pretty well.
Ie: "notes -a This is an entry." works fine.
