What is the syntax for an ftp that is appending to the target file? I understand to use the append command, but how do you tell it which source file to append to which target file.

The easiest way to test this,I was able to imagine, was by touching 5 files and afterwards looping trough to the results:

The bash stores each uniqueid in an array and then passes them to %q to get the unique path. That seems to work what I am having trouble with is renaming each .png with the unique value in %q. DESCRIPTION
Gets the size for the given file.
PARAMETERS
o $filename
- Path to the file.
RETURN VALUES
Returns the size of the file in bytes, or FALSE (and generates an error of level E_WARNING) in case of an error.
Note
Because PHP's integer type is signed and many platforms use 32bit integers, some filesystem functions may return unexpected results
for files which are larger than 2GB.
