Is there a split function in shell? (not awk)
Coz i got a string as input and needed to split it.
eg. input = "abc:123:def:www"
I need to split it into 4 variable which contains abc,123,def,www.

I have gone through all the threads in the forum and tested out different things. I am trying to split a 3GB file into multiple files. Some files are even larger than this.
For example:
split -l 3000000 filename.txt

I'm trying to do a split using two delimiters. The first delimiter is ": " (or we could call it :\s). The second is "\n".

Hello people,
I have a huge file of say 1 gb called A123.txt..
to get the word count, i do
wc -l A123.txt
This gives me a count of say 122898.
Now what i do is, i divide this by 4 ie. 122888/4=30722

SYNOPSIS
rushlast [-F STRING] [-f DIR] [-n NUM] [--forward] [-H]
rushlast {-v | -h | --usage}
DESCRIPTION
rushlast is a utility to search backwards in the session history that GNU rush maintains about all users calling on its services.
OPTIONS -F STRING | --format=STRING
Use specified format string instead of the default string.
-f DIR | --file=DIR
Use database directory DIR. Default location is /var/lib/rush.
--forward
Display entries in chronological instead of reverse time order. The latter is the default mode of operation.
-n NUM | --count=NUM | -NUM
Show at most NUM records. The numerical form '-NUM' is to provide compatibility with the standard utility last(1).
-H | --no-header
Suppress the header line in printout.
-v | --version
Display program version.
-h | --help
Display a short help message.
--usage
Display a concise usage summary.
