Your current code explicitly initializes the array using:

days=(9 8 7 6 5)

If you want to update the array and load those updated values the next time you run your script, you need to save the updated values in a file before you exit your script, and when you run your script you need to load the array from that file; not with the initialization step shown above.

Note that you also need to be sure that you never run more than one copy of your script at a time. If you have two copies of the script running concurrently, you have to be absolutely sure that they destroy the file saving your stored data by performing concurrent updates to that file.

NAME

       script - make record of a terminal session

SYNOPSIS

       script [-a] [filename]

DESCRIPTION

       The  script  utility  makes a record of everything printed on your screen. The record is written to filename. If no file name is given, the
       record is saved in the file typescript. See WARNINGS.

       The script command forks and creates a sub-shell, according to the value of $SHELL, and records the text from this session. The script ends
       when the forked shell exits or when Control-d is typed.

OPTIONS

       The following option is supported:

       -a    Appends the session record to filename, rather than overwriting it.

NOTES

       script places everything that appears on the screen in filename, including prompts.
