Yes, length is different. The actual file length is 700 kb and it's reduced to 100 bytes.

When i open the file after it's downloaded, it has the date and time information of the download but not data.

Basically I am needing to Download (using curl) in the background some data from(link here), with stderr redirected to /dev/null, to a file named taxcode
I was doing this,
curl & http:// name here/download/pls/Title_26.txt 2> /dev/null > taxcode
but the results were not what I was after.

Output fixed-size pieces of INPUT to PREFIXaa, PREFIXab, ...; default PREFIX is `x'. With no INPUT, or when INPUT is -, read standard

Mandatory arguments to long options are mandatory for short options too.
-a, --suffix-length=N
use suffixes of length N (default 2)
-b, --bytes=SIZE
put SIZE bytes per output file
-C, --line-bytes=SIZE
put at most SIZE bytes of lines per output file
-l, --lines=NUMBER
put NUMBER lines per output file
--verbose
