In the below awk I am trying to combine all matching $4 into a single $5 (up to the -), and count the lines in $6 and average all values in $7. that are in $1 of gene which is just a single column of text.

I am trying to output a tab-delimited result that uses the data from a tab-delimited file to combine and subtract specific lines.

$9 $13 $2 $10-$11.$10 and $11 are often times multiple values separated by a comma, so the value in $10 is combined with the first value from

It isvery close but what Ican not seem to do is add the -exon..., the ... portion comes from $1 and the _exon is static and will never change. igawk - gawk with include files
SYNOPSIS
igawk [ all gawk options ] -f program-file [ -- ] file ...

DESCRIPTION
Igawk is a simple shell script that adds the ability to have ``include files'' to gawk(1).
AWK programs for igawk are the same as for gawk, except that, in addition, you may have lines like
@include getopt.awk
in your program to include the file getopt.awk from either the current directory or one of the other directories in the search path.
OPTIONS
See gawk(1) for a full description of the AWK language and the options that gawk supports.
EXAMPLES
cat << EOF > test.awk
