When I have migrated LVM managed volumes in the past, we would:-
  • Present the new LUNs
  • Grow the volume groups be adding the new LUNs
  • Use pvmigrate, pvmove or migratepv (as appropriate to the OS to move the logical volumes from the old to the new LUNs
  • Remove the old (empty) LUNs from the volume group
  • Remove the old LUNs from the OS
  • Remove the old LUNs from the old SAN
The boot volume group is rather trickier and you may have to do some when booted from CD, else the devices will be in use. You would probably need to edit the grub, however I have not had to do this as we were always local boot and just the data volume groups were moving.

There is commercial software that may assist you with this, such as that from Storix (see https://www.youtube.com/user/StorixSoftware and Linux, AIX and Solaris Backup and System Recovery Software) or Christie Clone Manager (see Cristie and Cristie Software CloneManager) that may help. If it's a one-off, you might even manage the process with the demo software, but perhaps it would be worth investing in one of them anyway.

rootvg mirrored

I want to increase the size of /tmp by 1GB I know that the command is chfs -a size=+1G /tmp But the rootvg is mirrored and when I do a lsvg -p rootvg, I could see 2 disks. Will there be any impact if I increase the size of /tmp when the rootvg is mirrored ? Please advise. (1 Reply)

The root filesystem was mirrored, someone/something stopped mirroring, and increased / and /home to ridiculous values (/ got increased to 102gb and its only using 4.3gb, so 98gb is free). NAME

       rescan-scsi-bus.sh - rescan the SCSI bus.

SYNOPSIS

       rescan-scsi-bus.sh [ -l ] [ -w ] [ -c ] [ -r ] [ host...  ]

DESCRIPTION

       rescan-scsi-bus.sh is a program that is used to rescan the SCSI bus using the SCSI add-single-device feature of the Linux SCSI layer.

OPTIONS

       -l     Activates scanning for LUNs 0 .. 7 (default: 0).

       -L NUM Activates scanning for LUNs 0 .. LUN (default: 0).

       --luns=LIST
	      Scan only LUNs in LIST.

       -w     Enables scanning for device IDs 0 .. 15 (default: 0 .. 7).

       --ids=LIST
	      Scan only device IDs in LIST.

       -i, --issue-lip
	      Issue a FibreChannel LIP reset (default: disabled).

       -r, --remove
	      Enables removing of devices (default: disabled).

       --forceremove
	      Remove and readd every device (dangerous).

       -c     Enables scanning of channels 0 1 (default: 0).

       --channels=LIST
	      Scan only channels in LIST.

       host, --hosts=LIST
