Yeah, I know hostnames are different from DNS. I just thought I'd illustrate this might not work with hostnames yet. Its only been a few years this character set could work with domains.
The way they work with domains is to translate the text to "punycode". I just tried doing that with a converter online and found Этропия becomes xn--h1aldcj9dta in punycode. However, when I try to set that as a hostname it only comes back encoded:

RedHat 7.2, Gnome 1.4. tried "everything" but still can't figure out how to make cyrillic characters work normally. actually I don't care about anything other than Opera (6.01). I need it to display cyrillic normally.

I have a linksys DSL router.
I run a mixed environment of Windows, Linux and Solaris. The routers dhcp tables show the windows machines hostnames and associated IP's ok but the unix bases mahines don't have associated hostnames in the DHCP tables. I can ping by IP but not my the machines... (5 Replies)

i have written a shell script that reads a csv file and inserts tokenized strings into the database.
the problem comes when the csv file has cyrillic characters.
