To all,
I need to find a group in /etc/group and if found, I need to list out all the login ids for that group - one login id per line.
To find the list of user login ids for group X, I probably will use
cat /etc/group|grep ^X:|cut -d: -f4

I need to add to a BASH script if ${USER} is not in a list of users (smitha, brownd, adamsp) then do something... what is the best shortest way to accomplish an if statement with a list like this? Also the list of users should be in the script, not an external file.

groups - display a user's group memberships SYNOPSIS
/usr/ucb/groups [user]... DESCRIPTION
With no arguments, groups displays the groups to which you belong; else it displays the groups to which the user belongs. Each user belongs to a group specified in the password file /etc/passwd and possibly to other groups as specified in the file /etc/group. If you do not own a file but belong to the group which it is owned by then you are granted group access to the file. FILES
