Is there a limit on the number of forwards that can be used or the syntax and spaces?
I noticed I have to put spaces between ; and the IP for at least the first one, then space at the end to work and the rest don't work at all no matter what I try.
Thanks,
DH

I have set up a BIND server running on Redhat AS 3.0 and the question I have is that I can point my laptop to that server and resolve all the hosts I have put in my .zone file but for the life of me I can resolve any outside information. I have verified the server can talk to the world. Any hints... (2 Replies)

I use forwarders for a subzone, but TCP 53 is blocked, So does forwarders really need TCP?
If forwaders use UDP, I can't get following scenario to work:
main zone is master, but subzone is forwad. Is it possible?
(On name sever itself, resolution of xx.stub.abc.com worked fine.)

Okay, I have a question guys... I was given a task to set up a DNS slave server, in addition to our already set up BIND DNS master server. I looked over the one of the zone files, and found something curious. The starting SOA line, reads as:

METHODS
new
$question = Net::DNS::Question->new("example.com", "MX", "IN");
Creates a question object from the domain, type, and class passed as arguments.
qname, zname
print "qname = ", $question->qname, "
";
print "zname = ", $question->zname, "

Returns the domain name. In dynamic update packets, this field is known as "zname" and refers to the zone name.
qtype, ztype
print "qtype = ", $question->qtype, "
";
print "ztype = ", $question->ztype, "
";
Returns the record type. In dymamic update packets, this field is known as "ztype" and refers to the zone type (must be SOA).
qclass, zclass
print "qclass = ", $question->qclass, "

Returns the question record in binary format suitable for inclusion in a DNS packet.
Arguments are a "Net::DNS::Packet" object and the offset within that packet's data where the "Net::DNS::Question" record is to be stored.
This information is necessary for using compressed domain names.
