I have encountered some problem with my SUN system. Everytime when i issue command #init 6 OR #init 0 it just logout and prompt for login again instead of rebooting the server when run init 6 and system shutdown when run init 0..

I typed in init 1 on my redhat box as root and according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runlevel):
1 Single-User Mode Does not configure network interfaces, start daemons, or allow non-root logins
So now I can't connect back to it. How do I change the init back to 3?... (8 Replies)

Hi,so today is my first day with linux.
I have some scripts from a friend and now im trying to run them but it doesnt work. So what i tried is:
-Moved the scripts to a specific directoy (into my document folder)

init-checkconf [OPTIONS] file
init-checkconf [OPTIONS] -f file
DESCRIPTION
Determine if specified Upstart init(8) job configuration file is valid.
By default, two checks are performed:
o Ensure Upstart can parse overall file successfully
o Ensure all script sections are parseable by shell
OPTIONS -d , --debug
Show some debug output.
-f file , --file=file
Specify job configuration file to check.
-i path , --initctl-path=path
Specify path to initctl(8) binary.
-s , --noscript
Do not check script sections.
-x path , --upstart-path=path
Specify path to init(8) binary.
-h , --help
Display usage statement.
