If it is just waiting for data on fd #4, I would start by trying #1; but if your program can continue processing if data is available on another file descriptor as well, choose option 2.
With what you have shown us there is no way for us to guess why it is taking more than 24 seconds for the server to respond to your request.

I have setup my own client and server on two test Solaris VMs, and my client app is able to connect to server and process data just fine. The difference is that, the test network has only one routing path and there are no intermediate routers/firewalls etc in between my client and server.
However, at my workplace, the environment is different. my production client and server VMs have multiple interfaces and so have many different routes. I am beginning to suspect it could be routing mis configuration that result in non optimal routes, or intermediate firewalls/switches causing the delay. So far, all i could think of is comparing the tcp and ip settings ( using ndd ) to that of production and see what can be fine tuned.
The client and server apps are proprietary, so I have no way to change any code.

while trying to debug and figure out why a lofiadm command was not working on my script, i came across a cmd called "truss"

But it still displays on the screen adn output.txt is empty

NAME
dhcpv6client_ui - DHCPv6 client interface for requesting configuration parameters from the DHCPv6 server
SYNOPSIS
interface_name

DESCRIPTION
is the interface through which a user contacts the client daemon, to obtain IPv6 addresses and other configuration parameters from the
server. The default configuration parameters are specified as command line options when the DHCPv6 client daemon is invoked.
When requests for IPv6 addresses or other configuration parameters, the client daemon obtains them from the server and stores in the file.
is executed on the same machine on which the client daemon is configured. Ensure that the client daemon is up and running before is exe-
cuted.
Options
supports the following options:
Request the client daemon to obtain IPv6 addresses
for the named interface, interface_name, from the DHCPv6 server daemon if the option is not specified.
Specify the other configuration parameters that
the client daemon must request from the server daemon.
This option must be used in conjunction with the option.
The configuration parameters that the client can request are listed below:
Obtain one or more DNS server addresses
Obtain the DNS domain list
Obtain one or more SIP server addresses
Obtain the SIP domain list
Obtain one or more NIS server addresses
Obtain the NIS domain name
Obtain one or more NIS+ server addresses
Obtain the NIS+ domain name
Obtain all the above listed parameters
Obtain all the default parameters configured in the dhcpv6 client daemon

the client daemon must request from the server daemon.

Release the specified IPv6 addresses.
Get the temporary addresses from the dhcpv6 client daemon.
Print the version information of the client daemon.
Request only the other configuration parameters. Do not
request IPv6 addresses.
Notify the client daemon to utilize the IPv6 addresses
already obtained for an interface instead of requesting new IPv6 addresses from the server.
This option must be used in conjunction with the option.
Get both temporary and non-temporary addresses from the client daemon.
When there is no or option specified obtains only non-temporary addresses.
RETURN VALUES
returns 0 on success and 1 on failure.
