Dear Friends,
I write a c program to list the directories recursively. For this I write a function called my_readdir to read the content of directory. For this I use read system call it returns -1, then I use readdir system call it gives comment terminated error or segmentation... (1 Reply)

I know there is lseek() function that will allow to write or read from certain position in the file. Is there similar function that will let do same but for array rather then file? (9 Replies)
Hi everybody,
i've been googling for ages now and gotten kinda desperate... The question, however, might be rather trivial for the experts: What is it exactly, i.e. physically, the POSIX function (for a file) "lseek" does? Does it trigger some kind of synchronization on disk? Is it just for the... (4 Replies)
I tried to use lseek system call to determine the number of bytes in a file. To do so, I used open system call with O_APPEND flag to open a file. As lseek returns the current offset so I called lseek for opened file with offset as zero and whence as SEEK_CUR. So I guess it must return the number of... (3 Replies)

posix_openpt() - open a pseudo-terminal master device
SYNOPSIS
Parameters
oflag indicates the file status flags and file access modes of the open file description. Values for oflag are constructed by a bit-
wise-inclusive OR of flags from the following list, defined in
Open for reading and writing.
If set will not cause the terminal device to become the controlling terminal for the process.
DESCRIPTION
The function establishes a connection between a master device for a pseudo-terminal and a file descriptor. This file descriptor can be used
to refer that device. The file status flags and file access modes of the opened file descriptor will be set according to the value of
oflag.
RETURN VALUE
Upon successful completion opens a master pseudo-terminal device and returns a non-negative integer representing the lowest numbered unused
file descriptor. Otherwise, returns -1 and is set to indicate the error.
ERRORS
On failure sets one of the following values for
OPEN_MAX file descriptors are currently open in the calling process.
The maximum allowable number of files are currently open on the system.
The value of oflag is not valid.
Out of pseudo-terminal resources.
Out of STREAMS resources.
