@Franklin52 and @Chubler_XL thanks for your replies!

File 1 currently does not have a ID column. This ID column has to be inserted. @Franklin52, when I try tried your approach, the outout is exactly file1 without the ID column inserted?

@Chubler_XL, when I try your approach, the output is as follows:

Code:
ID,Date,ParentID,Number,Area,Volume,Dimensions
,2014-01-01,ABC,247,83430.33,857.84,8110.76
,2014-01-01,DEF,295,2904.60,139.33,102.95
,2014-01-01,ABC,146,11392.70,5017.07,800.96
,2014-01-01,XYZ,465,589.76,2.55,1145.33

Am i missing anything?

Thanks again guys!

NAME
igawk - gawk with include files SYNOPSIS
igawk [ all gawk options ] -f program-file [ -- ] file ... igawk [ all gawk options ] [ -- ] program-text file ... DESCRIPTION
Igawk is a simple shell script that adds the ability to have ``include files'' to gawk(1). AWK programs for igawk are the same as for gawk, except that, in addition, you may have lines like @include getopt.awk in your program to include the file getopt.awk from either the current directory or one of the other directories in the search path. OPTIONS
See gawk(1) for a full description of the AWK language and the options that gawk supports. EXAMPLES
cat << EOF > test.awk @include getopt.awk BEGIN { while (getopt(ARGC, ARGV, "am:q") != -1) ... } EOF igawk -f test.awk SEE ALSO
