I have a text file that contains lines like this:

I need to find all occurences of amounts that are negative and replace them with x's

ok I can loop throw the files like :
foreach f ( ` find . -name "*."`)
.. but here I like to examine the file if in contain the desired string

--> Replace only 'abc' with 'xyz', but it should not replace abcd with xyzd.

I need to use the regex in the replacement string in SED command.
something like
sed -e ' s/\(^\{5\}\).\{150\}\(.*\)$/\10\{30\}1\{30\}A\{60\}B\{30\}\2/' abc
which means for all the lines in file abc that starts with 5 characters, I need to replace character 6-151... (6 Replies)
Using grep -r -H "foobar" / > result to give
all files that contain the string "foobar"
Half way , its waiting for some thing and does not end
Not Sure whats happening.
