The other question is, how do you want your output?
Right now, the way you're doing it, it's going to bundle them in groups of particular ID's. If you do it in "bulk", it may not end up sorted that politely.

I am not sure if using cat -n is the most efficient way to split a file into multiple files, one file per line in the source file.
