I suspect it's still compressed or encoded in some way. Also, because of the fixed-size chunks you're getting, you're probably getting the stream somewhere in the middle, stripped of headers and the like.
Why don't you have the logger anymore? Did it blow up?
Can't you at least tell us what it was?

I have a gz file from other system(solaris), which is ftped to our system(solaris).
After gunzip, the file is a xml file and we are using ORACLE built in xml transformiing tool ORAXSL to transform XML to TXT.

Hi,
I am beginner to Unix.
My requirement is to validate the encoding used in the incoming file(csv,txt).If it is encoded with UTF-8 format,then the file should remain as such otherwise i need to chnage the encoding to UTF-8.

I'm working on a script on SUN solaris and I'm facing a problem with the number encoding as shown below,
1 is encoded to 31 (this is ASCII so it's ok)
11 is encoded as B118 !!! don't know why

::logger::appender::console -level level -service service ?options...?
-level level
Name of the level to fill in as "priority" in the log procedure.
-service service
Name of the service to fill in as "category" in the log procedure.

Any additional arguments for the log procedure in list form
-conversionPattern conversionPattern
The log pattern to use (see logger::utils::createLogProc for the allowed substitutions).
