Your input seems to have 2 lines instead of 1 as shown in your sample.
I assumed it was a formatting issue since you havn't used code-tags.
Can you confirm if the real input indeed will have the same? It doesn't seem to be realistic.

I am using bash. My question concerns cutting out segments of a string. Given the following filename:

I have been able to successfully separate the string at the periods (.):

DESCRIPTION
ssh-argv0 replaces the old ssh command-name as hostname handling. If you link to this script with a hostname then executing the link is
equivalent to having executed ssh with that hostname as an argument. All other arguments are passed to ssh and will be processed normally.
