I would like to know how AWK can get me the distinct values say for eg: on col2... (22 Replies)

I have a data file with 300,000 records in it, and another file which contains only the line numbers of roughly 13,000 records in the data file which have data integrity issues. I have a below data in a .csv file where all rows where col1 is A, col2 is odd numbers, similarly even numbers for all rows where col1 is B.
Note that my data has some other columns(not shown here) too (around 100) after col2.

I'm trying to print the value corresponding to the words A, B, C, D, E. These words could appear sometimes and sometimes not inside each group of lines. Each group of lines begins with "ZYX".

is a text formatter. Its input consists of the text to be out-
put, intermixed with formatting commands. A formatting commandis a line containing the control character followed by a twocharacter command name, and possibly one or more arguments. Thecontrol character is initially . (dot). The formatted output isproduced on standard output. .ad Adjust right margin.
.ar Arabic page numbers.
.br Line break. Subsequent text will begin on a new line.
