Thanks for your reply. I am using TeraTerm but the Terminal type is just vt100. And the form restricts us from opening it in any other terminal mode other than vt100. I had tried xterm and vt220.
When I use Putty the function keys do not work. So as you guys said there might be some mapping being done by the Terminal emulator TeraTerm. But even if terminal emulator does some mapping wouldnt it fall as the responsibility of the terminfo database to map those sequences to the correct keys/capabilities.
I will definitely read up on ncurses, had skipped it even though it came up here and there.

I couldn't seem to make 'HOME' key work on my remote windows ssh client to a Fedora Core3 server (the home key works perfectly when i'm physically on site.)

Filename may have the special character $. Need to escape $ .

I ran the following grep and sed command.
grep "\t" emp.txt
sed -n '/\t/p' emp.txt
grep treated the '\' as to escape t and took the pattern as literal t whereas sed took the pattern as tab.
That means , grep doesn't understand escape sequence!!!!!!

I am running Solaris 8. When issuing the command "stty lcase" all text which is output to the terminal are capitalized. Letters that are supposed to be capitals are preceded by a backslash during output. All text which is input is converted to lower case. This is the expected behaviour... (5 Replies)

NAME
infotocap - convert a terminfo description into a termcap description
SYNOPSIS
infotocap [-vn width] [-V] [-1] [-w width] file . . .
DESCRIPTION
infotocap looks in each given text file for terminfo descriptions. For each terminfo description found, an equivalent termcap description
is written to standard output. Terminfo use capabilities are translated directly to termcap tc capabilities.
-v print out tracing information on standard error as the program runs.
-V print out the version of the program in use on standard error and exit.
-1 cause the fields to print out one to a line. Otherwise, the fields will be printed several to a line to a maximum width of 60 charac-
ters.
-w change the output to width characters.

/etc/terminfo Compiled terminal description database.
NOTES
This utility is actually a link to tic, running in -C mode. You can use other tic options such as -f and -x.
