Well, a suggestion for logic (no code yet)
- Get all the unique values from all the files into one.
- Get values missing in each file and write your adjustment records in
- Wrap it all together. Is the output required as sorted? That might make it easier.
Does that seem a sensible approach?
How many output files do you want? Is it one output for each input?

which does what I need it to do, but for only two files. I want to make it so that I can have multiple files (for example 30) and the code will return only the items that are in every single one of those files and ignore the ones... (7 Replies)

I have a problem that is one step beyond a standard awk compare.

Print selected parts of lines from each FILE to standard output.
With no FILE, or when FILE is -, read standard input.
Mandatory arguments to long options are mandatory for short options too.
-b, --bytes=LIST
select only these bytes
-c, --characters=LIST
select only these characters
-d, --delimiter=DELIM
use DELIM instead of TAB for field delimiter
-f, --fields=LIST
select only these fields; also print any line that contains no delimiter character, unless the -s option is specified
-n (ignored)
--complement
complement the set of selected bytes, characters or fields
-s, --only-delimited
do not print lines not containing delimiters
--output-delimiter=STRING
use STRING as the output delimiter the default is to use the input delimiter
-z, --zero-terminated
line delimiter is NUL, not newline
--help display this help and exit
