I would keep your master script somewhere that they cannot alter it else you will have a multitude of differences as people tweak the code about and a nightmare to debug. Assuming that each one has a separate home directory, could you get your script to use an input file in there?
You haven't given us anything to look at, but I would suggest something like this:-
Does that give you a framework to start with?
Is it possible to combine a regular expression with a aritmetical expression? For example, taking a 8-numbers caracter sequece and casting each output of a grep, comparing to a constant.

SYNOPSIS
script [-a] [filename]
DESCRIPTION
The script utility makes a record of everything printed on your screen. The record is written to filename. If no file name is given, the
record is saved in the file typescript. See WARNINGS.
The script command forks and creates a sub-shell, according to the value of $SHELL, and records the text from this session. The script ends
when the forked shell exits or when Control-d is typed.
OPTIONS
The following option is supported:
-a Appends the session record to filename, rather than overwriting it.
NOTES
script places everything that appears on the screen in filename, including prompts.
