I need some help analyzing the attached metrics. System context is 2 LPAR's in a P795 running WebSphere App Server across 4 nodes (2 on each LPAR).
Over the weekend both LPAR's lost power and upon re-start the application server response times have degraded by 25-30% for no obvious reasons.
Our middleware guys tell me that the LPAR's recovered OK and are running fine. However from an application response time perspective this is clearly not the case.
I have attached 2 text files capturing a bunch of metrics during the peak period and would be really interested in your expert thoughts.
can some tell me how to do this. I mean, i tried finding this out on my own but when I checked the man pages, i got a truckload of commands available pertaining to this task which in turn got me confused.
so my question is, if there is a simple straight forward(not necessarily easy) way to... (2 Replies)
Hi,
Does anyone know of any programs that can create Unix (Solaris) server metrics such as server uptime, services uptime, processor utilization by hour by day, memory utilization by hour by day, active users by hour by day, etc?
Thanks! (2 Replies)
What do others use for measuring I/O statistics? I'd like something versatile, as in being able to watch (like iostat, but easier to trend), generate load (like iozone, but more realistic), and perform somewhat generalized benchmarks (like bonnie, but more current.) It would scale from a few... (0 Replies)

pmFetchArchive - get performance metrics directly from an archive log
C SYNOPSIS
#include <pcp/pmapi.h>
int pmFetchArchive(pmResult **result);
cc ... -lpcp
DESCRIPTION
pmFetchArchive is a variant of pmFetch(3) that may only be used when the current Performance Metrics Application Programming Interface
(PMAPI) context is associated with an archive log.
The result is instantiated with all of the metrics (and instances) from the next archive record, consequently there is no notion of a list
of desired metrics, and the instance profile of the PMAPI context is ignored.
It is expected that pmFetchArchive would be used to create utilities that scan archive logs, while the more common access to the archives
would be via the pmFetch(3) interface.
To skip records within the archive log, use pmSetMode(3) to change the collection time within the current PMAPI context, then call
pmFetchArchive.
Note that the result returned by pmFetchArchive is dynamically allocated, and must be released using pmFreeResult(3), not free(3C). See
pmFetch(3) and pmFreeResult(3) for further details.
pmFetchArchive returns zero on success.

DIAGNOSTICS
PM_ERR_NOTARCHIVE
the current PMAPI context is not associated with an archive log
