I am trying to change ownership of a file that I own by using the following command:
chown norfoklm norfolk
norfoklm is the user I am trying to change it to and norfolk is the name of the directory
The error I keep getting is:
chown: norfolk: Not owner

I have a file fin2009_4.txt.gz in the unix ftp server. Owner of the file is: ftpusr.
-rw-r--r-- 1 ftpusr sap 0 Feb 19 10:19 fin2009_4.txt.gz
When I try to delete this file after copying to my home folder, I am getting the following error.

My oracledatabase creats some xmlfiles. this files has the owner hugo. now I've a script (how runs als hugo2) and this script will insert this XMLFile into the database. I am working on a test machine.
I just discovered that I have misunderstood the way the following command is run.
chown -Rv some_user:users /some_folder/*This command do exactly what I want. Change the owner of every things from the named folder and in all child folders.

subuid - the subordinate uid file DESCRIPTION
Each line in /etc/subuid contains a user name and a range of subordinate user ids that user is allowed to use. This is specified with three fields delimited by colons (":"). These fields are: o login name or UID o numerical subordinate user ID o numerical subordinate user ID count This file specifies the user IDs that ordinary users can use, with the newuidmap command, to configure uid mapping in a user namespace. Multiple ranges may be specified per user. When large number of entries (10000-100000 or more) are defined in /etc/subuid, parsing performance penalty will become noticeable. In this case it is recommended to use UIDs instead of login names. Benchmarks have shown speed-ups up to 20x. FILES
