Qemu Problems: OpenBSD(host) Kali Linux(guest)

As the title suggests I ran into a little problem trying to create a virtual machine of Kali Linux usign Qemu inside OpenBSD. I edited the example Kali Linux gave on their website here to the following for BSD:

Code:
qemu-system-i386 -hda ./kali.qcow2 -boot d -cdrom ./kali-linux-1.0.5-i386.iso -m 768 -usb

This would only seemed to work using their Failsafe boot mode. I played with different amounts of memory, but 768 seemed to be the magic number.

When the Gnome desktop began everything would fail and the vm would stop. Monitoring this again from start to fail I noticed that the vm was consuming heavy processing before it even got to the desktop:

Code:
$ ps -aux | grep qemu
root 26346 98.4 33.5 1115948 1050004 p1 S+ 1:52PM 2:27.45 qemu-system-i386 -hda ./kali.

It continued to climb above 100.00 before finally crashing.

I couldn't imagine one vm would consume too much processing on a quad machine that's not running much else. I'm a little new to OpenBSD and have never really used Qemu before.

Does anyone know any other parameters for Qemu I can use to help keep the processing load under control?

UPDATE - Tried adding "-cpu Nehalem" to specify my CPU architecture. No change though...
