Top Forums UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers [Solved] ls -l in CentOS 6.4 after upload using sftp Post 302869247 by Scott on Wednesday 30th of October 2013 12:42:45 AM

Is your ls command aliased with, for example, -F?

An extract from /etc/DIR_COLORS:

Code:
# Extra command line options for ls go here.
# Basically these ones are:
# -F = show '/' for dirs, '*' for executables, etc.
# -T 0 = don't trust tab spacing when formatting ls output.

That's to say that the asterisk may merely be part of the output of ls and not part of the filename.
