If your script name is logproc either navigate to the directory where the script is available and execute as ./logproc or execute using absolute path /my/dir1/logproc (Replace /my/dir1) with the directory name where the script is available.
If the script name has a .sh extension remember to include that as well while executing.
And, be sure that the file has been made executable:

I have tried to put a exit 0 statement within a function I have created in the shell script but it doesn't seem to exit out of the script? Can someone tell me why? And is there any other way to exit out of the script from within a function?

DESCRIPTION
The script utility makes a record of everything printed on your screen. The record is written to filename. If no file name is given, the
record is saved in the file typescript. See WARNINGS.
The script command forks and creates a sub-shell, according to the value of $SHELL, and records the text from this session. The script ends
when the forked shell exits or when Control-d is typed.
OPTIONS
The following option is supported:
-a Appends the session record to filename, rather than overwriting it.
NOTES
script places everything that appears on the screen in filename, including prompts.
