I do however have a few more questions;
#1 Can I use my MacBook with the CISCO cable, having the RS-232 end in the back of the V210 and the eth0 end of the cable in the Ethernet port of my Mac, manually set an IP and use the command

or will that not work?
#2 Failing that, could I use a USB to RS-232 adapter with the CISCO cable and plug the USB into my MacBook and then use some magical command in terminal to telnet via the USB instead or will that not work?
#3 Is this image the CISCO cable that we are referring to?
If I can't use my MacBook to do this, I'm already scouring for an older crapolá laptop that I can whack WinXP on there. I tested out HyperTerminal in Parallels on OSX, and it is easy to follow, but I think because my computer doesn't have a serial port, it wouldn't give the option I needed to generate a faux connection.

I brought Sun Fire 280R to practice UNIX. What are the requirements for the monitor/CRT? Will it burn out old non-Sun CRTs? Does it need LCD monitor?

Hi,
I was asked to connect a KVM screen to a Sun Fire V440 last night so I connected it up but no joy and nothing on the KVM screen. I was told that a reboot may fix the problem so connected to the ALOM and rebooted. On the plus side, the KVM screen now works but I lost the ALOM connection.

Purchased a Sun Surefire V210 Server off eBay. Unable to Access the Terminal Mode via the Terminal MGT. Using Windows 7 home, and downloaded the ConEmu.
The ConEmu brings up a Command line on the PC, and that's it.

Hey,
I have a V210 with a failed CPU fan.
The temperature is currently at 84C and I've been asked to wait a few weeks before replacing as its a production system and it cant be shut down yet.
Is it too hot? Do I risk killing the CPU at this temp?

I got a v215 but the login credentials are unknown. I plug the serial management RS232-RJ45 and get the output on the terminal. I reseted NVRAM and battery but I can't use the default login still. After these operations the output from boot is as such ;

SYNOPSIS
To compile this driver into the kernel, place the following lines in your kernel configuration file:

Alternatively, to load the driver as a module at boot time, place the following line in loader.conf(5):

DESCRIPTION
The umct driver provides support for USB to RS-232 converters based on the Magic Control Technology USB-232 design. These devices support
most of the standard RS-232 features including baud rates ranging from 300 to 115200 bits per second. However, neither hardware nor software
flow control seems to be supported.
Access to devices under this driver is via the ucom(4) framework and device nodes.
