I have test string value , something like the one below
If I type it doesnt give me anything .
But on the contrary
display the only one pipe character(|) thats there in the string above .
The way I understood Unix regexp and grep command is + : matches one / more occurence of the preceeding character
-o : displays all the occurences of patter in the file / standard input
So why the first pattern yeilds nothing but the second does ?
Does grep -o option match literal values only ?
Please help .

DESCRIPTION
Asks the lircd daemon to send one or more CIR (Consumer Infra-Red) commands. This is intended for remote control of electronic devices such
as TV boxes, HiFi sets, etc.
DIRECTIVE can be:
SEND_ONCE - send CODE [CODE ...] once
SEND_START - start repeating CODE
SEND_STOP - stop repeating CODE
LIST - list configured remote items

REMOTE is the name of a remote, as described in the lircd configuration file.
CODE is the name of a remote control key of REMOTE, as it appears in the lircd configuration file.
