Nope. Using opensnoop or running du to look for folder size changes just reveals caching by the safari web content process, and other activities like updating the saved application state or updating browser history. I searched the file ~/library/caches/com.apple.safari/cache.db (safari's main cache) and the streaming video is not cached there.
The plugin i'm using to play the video is simply flash on youtube. I'm not interested in plugins that will download the video for me, I'm looking to do this manually, mostly for academic reasons.

claws-mail-fancy-plugin is a plugin (loadable module) for the Claws Mail mailer.
This plugin enables viewing HTML mails (and HTML attachments) within the Claws Mail message window using the GTK+ port of the WebKit
library.
USAGE
Before using a plugin you must instruct Claws Mail to load it on startup.
For this you must go ``Configuration'' menu on main window toolbar, open ``Plugins...'' dialog, click on the ``Load plugin...'' button and
select the plugin file, named fancy.so, and press the ``Open'' button.
