Best Practices of people you might trust with root in production are to stay out of root as much as possible (familiarity breeds contempt and disaster, like "rm -rf *" in the wrong window). Think "su - root -c 'something-I-need-to-do'". If you need to do it again, it is in your shell history.
Good security practices say you record who goes into root on every virtual host every time. A log of what they do can be nice, too.
If these practices get in your way, consider making admin IDs to do some of the things you do as root, perhaps using group permissions as they were intended. There are already too many various tasks under root. I recently found periodic new root-owned zero-length core dump files on a prod system's SAN mounts -- which app is crashing on which machine?

Hello,
how can I get a "remote login" option in the CDE login screen?
My Solaris box offers that by default.
I already found that this might be done by dtchooser, so I copied the /usr/dt/config/Xaccess to /etc/dt/config/Xaccess and uncommented the line * CHOOSER BROADCAST - but still no... (1 Reply)

I have SunBlade 150 Workstation (Solaris 9), I installed the OS again then when I try to login to any server using ( Options > Remote Login > Enter Host Name)

I'm having problem with the CDE pre login banner.
I configured the c/usr/dt/config/C/Xresources file to add my warning message:
Dtlogin*greeting.labelString: My Banner
I then modified the Dtlogin*greeting*fontList to display the message in smaller text. This did not work.

I configured CDE on AIX server and lauched CDE from desktop using reflection 14.1.
I can lauch xclock with my own id
but when i Su to any other id and try xclock it is giving the follwoing error
X connection to localhost:10.0 broken ( explicit kill or server shutdown).

dximageview - Image Viewer for displaying graphics files
SYNOPSIS
/usr/bin/X11/dximageview [options] [filename...]
OPTIONS
The command line options are as follows: Used with the -root or -rootMode options to cause the Image Viewer to exit after displaying the
image to the root window. The name of a file containing a list of files to read. The file should contain one file name per line. Dis-
plays the command syntax. The number of seconds to display each image in auto play mode. Do not repeat the sequence of images in auto
play mode. Controls how the image is displayed to the root window. Valid options are: Scales the image to fill the root window. Centers
the image. Centers the image in the window while preserving the image aspect ratio. Tiles the image with the image centered in the win-
dow. Tiles the image with the image located in the top left corner of the window. Equivalent to -rootMode centerMaximumSize.
DESCRIPTION
The Image Viewer application, dximageview, allows the user to view graphics files.
The supported image types are GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and X Pixmap (XPM).
RUNNING THE GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE
To start dximageview, do one of the following: Click on the Image Viewer icon in the CDE Application Manager. Double click on an icon for
a JPEG, GIF, or TIFF file in the CDE File Manager. Drag and drop an icon from the CDE File Manager onto the Image Viewer icon. If the
icon represents a supported image type, the application is opened with the subject file as the image displayed in the Image View Window.
Invoke the following command from a terminal window: /usr/bin/X11/dximageview
