what's the purpose of the script? are you just trying to track the time it takes to a script to run?

you could do this:

Code:
date ; time find / -name hosts -print

DATE print the current date and time
TIME track how long (in seconds) it takes to run the command that follows it.

Code:
find / -name hosts -print

being an example of a command to run after time.
