I wish to compute the number of dot chars in a string.
Example:
VAR="aaaa.bbbbb.cccc"
I try the shortest command to solve this test.

I want to check if a zip code is valid, using a variable that stores the zipcode. I am not sure how I would do this in a script. The echo() function enables Echo mode for the current screen. The noecho() function disables Echo mode for the current screen. Initially,
