I need to write a program to do something like a 'vlookup' in excel. I want to match data from file2 based on two fields (where both match) in file1, and for matching lines, add the data from two of the fields from file2 to file1.

I'm looking for what I hope might be a one liner along these lines:
sed '/a line with more than 3 pipes in it/d'
I know how to get the pipe count in a string and store it in a variable, but I'm greedy enough to hope that it's possible via regex in the /.../d context. Am I asking too much? ... (5 Replies)

I have a text file with some lines like this:
/MEDIA/DISK1/23568742.MOV
/MEDIA/DISK1/87456321.AVI
/MEDIA/DISK2/PART1/45753131.AVI
/IMPORT/44452.WAV
...
I want to remove the last 12 characters in each line that it ends "AVI". Should look like this:

I am running an ISQL command on Sybase DB and getting output of a query in an CSV file.
The issue is that all the data comes in to the same column, i want them to be separated in different columns.

processcsv.py - process virt-top CSV files SUMMARY
virt-top --csv data.csv processcsv.py < data.csv DESCRIPTION
virt-top is a top(1)-like utility for showing stats of virtualized domains. processcsv.py is a simple Python script that post-processes the output of "virt-top --csv". It is used like this: virt-top --csv data.csv processcsv.py < data.csv The second command will overwrite the following files in the current directory: "global.csv" This contains the global (host) statistics columns from the CSV file. "domainNN.csv" (multiple files) For each libvirt domain ID NN, a file is created containing the per-domain statistics from the CSV file. SEE ALSO
