Agama,

Its Solaris 10. However I cant seem to find the version of awk. awk --version gets stuck. I tried your script with nawk, I dont see any output.

Solaris 10 1/06 s10s_u1wos_19a SPARC

I am pretty sure that there should be some problem with my input file, let me double check..

Agama,

Its working. But I would need:

1. To filter out [pipe the output] the result with another string, just to get the response time of a specific API. Like how we do with grep:

Code:
grep Starting inputFile | grep getNEData

2. To get the time difference. Right now it just displays the Start and End time, could you also show me how to get the difference calculated in minutes.

NAME
zgrep - search possibly compressed files for a regular expression SYNOPSIS
zgrep [ grep_options ] [ -e ] pattern filename... DESCRIPTION
Zgrep invokes grep on compressed or gzipped files. These grep options will cause zgrep to terminate with an error code: (-[drRzZ]|--di*|--exc*|--inc*|--rec*|--nu*). All other options specified are passed directly to grep. If no file is specified, then the standard input is decompressed if necessary and fed to grep. Otherwise the given files are uncompressed if necessary and fed to grep. If the GREP environment variable is set, zgrep uses it as the grep program to be invoked. EXIT CODE
